How Much Does a Destination Wedding Cost?
Get Your Real Estimate

Destination wedding budgets get thrown around online with zero context. $10K, $50K, $100K, all treated like the same trip.

Enter your guest count and style below. Get a real number based on actual Mexico and Caribbean wedding costs, not a guess pulled from a blog post.

What Actually Drives Your Destination Wedding Cost
Guest count changes everything. So does season, resort category, and how many nights your group stays.
A 30-guest wedding at an all-inclusive in Riviera Maya costs nothing like a 100-guest wedding in Punta Cana during peak season. Your estimate accounts for that. Most calculators don't.

Why This Estimate Is Different
We've planned 150+ destination weddings in Mexico and the Caribbean. This isn't a generic tool built off industry averages. It's built off real bookings, real resort pricing, and real group contracts.
Numbers online are guesses. This one isn't.

What Your Estimate Doesn't Include
Your estimate covers travel and resort costs. It won't cover things that go sideways: a resort changing room block terms, a vendor falling through, weather rerouting your whole week. That's the part a calculator can't price. That's what we handle. See what full destination wedding planning includes

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a destination wedding cost per guest?
Guest travel usually isn't the couple's expense. Guests pay for their own flights and resort stay, typically $1200 - $1500 per guest to include flights, roundtrip transportation, 3 nights all inclusive with meals and drinks.

For the couple, most base wedding packages are complimentary when you meet a minimum room night requirement. That often covers up to 10 guests. Some resorts extend that to 32. Beyond the base package, your cost shifts to customization: photography, florals, lighting, and reception upgrades.

Is a destination wedding cheaper than a local wedding?
Usually, yes, and by a wide margin. The base ceremony package (venue, basic setup, chairs, a simple bouquet, an on-site coordinator) is often included free once you hit the room block minimum.

From there, most fully customized destination weddings land in three tiers before tax and service: budget-conscious customization runs $10,000 to $15,000, moderate customization runs $15,000 to $30,000, and a luxury, design-forward wedding runs $30,000 to $75,000-plus. That's event design and production only, not guest travel. Compare that to a traditional US wedding averaging well over $30,000 before travel even enters the picture.

What's included in my estimate, and what gets added later?
Your estimate reflects the base package plus your selected style tier. It won't automatically include every category couples typically customize:
-
Photography and videography: $2,000 to $15,000+, depending on hours and whether you bring in outside vendors
-
Florals and decor: $2,500 to $25,000+, since beach ceremonies are built from scratch with no existing structure
-
Lighting: $1,000 to $8,000+, and not optional for a nighttime beach reception
-
Reception furniture and upgrades: $1,000 to $20,000+
-
DJ, live music, and sound: $1,000 to $12,000+
-
Hair and makeup for the bridal party: $800 to $6,000+, depending on group size
-
Extra events (welcome party, rehearsal dinner, farewell brunch): $2,500 to $25,000+
None of these are wrong to want. They just need to be planned for, not discovered halfway through the process.
Does resort category affect my final cost?
Significantly, on both sides of the budget. Guest-side, nightly resort rates vary widely by category and season. Couple-side, the base package's included guest count and quality of in-house vendors (photography, florals, coordination) differ resort to resort.

The resort you choose sets the ceiling and floor for almost everything downstream. Most budget surprises happen when a couple books a resort that doesn't actually match their vision, then tries to customize their way into it later.

What about taxes and service charges?
In Mexico and most Caribbean destinations, VAT runs 15 to 16 percent and service charges add roughly another 15 percent on top of most vendor services and upgrades. A $20,000 customization budget can realistically land closer to $26,000 once both are applied.

This is standard, not a hidden fee. It just needs to be built into your number from the start, which is why a generic online calculator without local expertise tends to run low.

How far in advance should I book to lock in this price?
Most couples start 12 to 18 months out. Peak season (November through April) at popular resorts books out early, and pricing tends to climb as room blocks fill.

Starting early doesn't just protect your price. It protects your date and your resort of choice before both disappear.
